A love story that blossomed virtually

"When the world stopped, our love story began. What started as video calls during lockdown turned into the greatest relationship of our lives."

— Priya & Rajesh, Married June 2024

The Beginning

It was March 2020, and the world had just gone into lockdown. Like many others, I (Priya) found myself with more time than ever before. My parents had been suggesting I join a matrimonial site for months, and finally, I decided to give it a try.

That's when I came across Rajesh's profile. His genuine smile and honest bio caught my attention. He was a software engineer working from home in Bangalore, while I was a teacher in Mumbai adapting to online classes.

Virtual Courtship

Our first conversation was supposed to be a quick 30-minute video call. It lasted three hours. We talked about everything – our families, dreams, favorite books, pandemic fears, and hopes for the future.

What could have been a disadvantage – not being able to meet in person – actually became our strength. Without the option of physical dates, we had to really get to know each other through conversations. We video called every day, sometimes multiple times a day.

Creative Virtual Dates

We got creative with our virtual dates:

  • Cooking the same recipe together over video call
  • Watching movies simultaneously and discussing them
  • Playing online games
  • Virtual coffee dates every morning
  • Reading the same books and having book club discussions

Meeting the Families

After two months of daily conversations, we introduced our families via video call. Both families were supportive and could see how well we connected. My parents appreciated how respectful and genuine Rajesh was, while his parents loved my enthusiasm and values.

The First In-Person Meeting

When restrictions eased after four months, we finally met in person in a park halfway between our cities. I was nervous – what if the chemistry we felt virtually didn't translate to real life?

But the moment I saw him, all my nervousness vanished. It felt like meeting an old friend. The connection we'd built over months of video calls was absolutely real.

The Proposal

Six months after our first conversation, Rajesh proposed during a sunset video call. He had arranged for my best friend to be at my place with flowers, while his family was at his place celebrating. It was unconventional but perfectly us.

Our Wedding

We got married in June 2024, with a beautiful ceremony that incorporated both traditional and modern elements. We even live-streamed it for relatives who couldn't attend due to health concerns.

What We Learned

  • • Strong communication can overcome any distance
  • • Getting to know someone's mind before their appearance creates a deeper connection
  • • Patience and creativity can turn limitations into opportunities
  • • When it's right, you just know – screen or no screen

"Sometimes the best things happen when you least expect them. We're grateful that a global pause gave us the time to find each other."
